Raymond Grandjean, artiste autodidacte, naît dans un environnement fort éloigné des vocations artistiques. De parents ouvriers dans la soierie lyonnaise, il commence à travailler dès l'age de 14 ans pour les PTT, où il délivre les télégrammes. Arpentant les rues lyonnaises, il y découvre ses formes et ses mystères, cultivant un imaginaire onirique.
« L'art ne rend pas le visible, il rend visible », citant volontiers Paul Klee, qu'il découvre en 1948, Raymond Grandjean interprète l'univers urbain. Fascinante organisation de l'espace où les variations chromatiques subliment la simplicité des paysages, le début des années 1950 marquant les tentations abstraites qui le libèrent vers une conception jubilatoire des couleurs et des formes.
Raymond Grandjean, a self-taught artist, was born in an environment far removed from artistic vocations. From working-class parents in the Lyon silk industry, he began working at the age of 14 for the PTT, where he delivered telegrams. Wandering the streets of Lyon, he discovers its forms and mysteries, cultivating a dreamlike imagination.
"Art does not make visible, it makes visible", quoting willingly Paul Klee, whom he discovered in 1948, Raymond Grandjean interprets the urban universe.
