Pierre Charbonnier étudie aux Beaux Arts de Lyon, avant de rejoindre l’académie Ranson à Paris. Dès 1919, il expose au Salon des Indépendants, des Tuileries et d’Automne. Chef décorateur sur les films de Robert Bresson, ami des poètes René Char, Jacques Prévert ou Francis Ponge, et également fédérateur des peintres néo romantiques, Pierre Charbonnier est une figure marquante de la vie culturelle parisienne. Il expose d'ailleurs chez Katia Granoff, Albert Loeb et Henriette Gomes.
La période d‘après guerre marque un accomplissement stylistique, les compositions et points de vues sont remarquables. Imprégné par l‘image cinématographique, Pierre Charbonnier, artiste insaisissable, compose ses toiles avec un gout évident pour le cadrage photographique. En effet, les plans sont étudiés et sophistiqués et les effets d’ouvertures dynamiques. “La poésie de Charbonnier se traduit par la subtilité des combinaisons de formes, complétée par celle des reflets dans l‘eau ou dans une vitre, le tout complété avec une rigueur digne de Mondrian.“ Fasciné par les paysages urbains en pleine mutation, il y a chez Pierre Charbonnier, cette brillante modernité des volumes et du silence.
Pierre Charbonnier studied at the Beaux Arts de Lyon, before joining the Académie Ranson in Paris. From 1919, he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants, the Tuileries and Automne. Chief decorator on the films of Robert Bresson, friend of the poets René Char, Jacques Prévert or Francis Ponge, and also federator of the neo-romantic painters, Pierre Charbonnier is a striking figure of the Parisian cultural life. He also exhibits at Katia Granoff, Albert Loeb and Henriette Gomes.
The post-war period marked a stylistic achievement, the compositions and points of view were remarkable. Imbued with the cinematic image, Pierre Charbonnier, an elusive artist, composes his canvases with an obvious taste for photographic framing. Indeed, the plans are studied and sophisticated, as well as the effects of dynamic openings. “Charbonnier’s poetry is reflected in the subtlety of the combinations of forms, complemented by that of reflections in water or in a window, all completed with a rigor worthy of Mondrian. “Fascinated by rapidly changing urban landscapes, there is in Pierre Charbonnier’s work this brilliant modernity of volumes and silence.
